About The Position

This advanced pharmacist role includes specialized practice areas such as Oncology/Infusion, Pediatrics/Neonates, and Unit-Based clinical services. Pharmacists in these roles contribute to patient-centered care by reviewing and optimizing medication therapy, identifying treatment issues, and ensuring adherence to clinical, regulatory, and institutional standards. They support quality and safety initiatives, participate in policy development, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance medication use and patient outcomes. The role also involves training, mentoring, and precepting pharmacy staff, students, and residents. Cross-training across specialty areas may be required to support operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and monitors patient plans (therapy and treatment) for appropriateness based on current clinical and institutional guidelines, as well as patient-specific criteria
  • Identifies treatment issues and medication misuse
  • Assesses all medication orders to ensure they meet established standards and practice guidelines of Atlantic Health Cancer Center
  • Advises clinicians on drug selection based on current clinical guidelines to optimize drug therapy based on patient specific considerations such as laboratory values and clinical condition
  • Adheres to safety requirements in the handling and preparation of chemotherapy and other hazardous agents according to current guidelines (USP 797, USP 800, ASHP, NIOSH)
  • Participates in educational activities and answers drug information questions
  • Participates in the training, education and mentoring of other pharmacists and technicians and precepting of pharmacy students and pharmacy residents
  • Participates in quality, safety and other project work related to oncology service in the outpatient infusion setting
  • Travel to other infusion sites is required
