About The Position

Honeywell Aerospace is seeking an Advanced Materials and Process Engineer specializing in materials development, testing, and characterization. The role focuses on materials science and processing–microstructure–property relationships for at least one of the Ni-based, Fe-based, or Ti-based alloy families. The engineer will contribute to the development of high-performance components for demanding applications. The position is based at the Phoenix, Arizona site on a hybrid schedule. For the first 90 days, new hires must work onsite Monday through Friday. The role reports directly to the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least 3 years of experience in material characterization, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or a related industry.
  • Strong materials science fundamentals, with education or experience focused on metallurgy, materials engineering, and/or materials science.
  • Demonstrated experience with processing–microstructure–property relationships for at least one Ni-based, Fe-based, or Ti-based alloy family.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or person with protected status under asylum or refugee status), or have the ability to obtain export authorization.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in material-characterization techniques such as mechanical testing, microscopy, and computational modeling tools.
  • Experience with tensile, creep, and fatigue testing, and ability to interpret test results.
  • Understanding of common metal failure modes, including creep, low-cycle fatigue, and high-cycle fatigue.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods such as casting, forging, additive manufacturing, or composites manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including assessing material performance and implementing improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of materials science fundamentals, particularly metallurgy, composites, or material processing methods.
  • Experience in team-oriented environments, with strong collaboration skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in material behavior under dynamic loading conditions and understanding of fatigue and fracture mechanics.
  • Familiarity with design-control processes, risk assessment, and reliability engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead materials development and qualification projects using techniques such as microstructure analysis, mechanical testing, and data modeling.
  • Conduct experimental testing to understand material performance under various loading conditions and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Use material-characterization findings to provide design guidance that optimizes component mechanical properties, performance, durability, and reliability.
  • Investigate material performance issues, identify root causes using advanced analytical techniques, and recommend solutions to reduce risk and improve reliability.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to integrate material characteristics into product design and development.
  • Prepare detailed documentation and reports on characterization studies, test results, and design-improvement recommendations, and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Improve material-characterization methods and techniques to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness in engineering design.
  • Mentor junior engineers and team members in material characterization and mechanical design principles.
