About The Position

The Spaceport America Fire Department (SAFD) is hiring a qualified and motivated Advanced EMT (AEMT) or Paramedic to serve as a single-role EMS provider at Spaceport America. This position provides critical emergency medical response and life-safety capabilities in one of the most unique operational environments in the country. SAFD protects a world-class aerospace facility supporting commercial spaceflight, aviation operations, industrial activities, and a variety of specialized missions. The AEMT/Paramedic is primarily responsible for emergency medical response, patient assessment and treatment, stabilization, and coordination of patient transport. The provider works closely with SAFD firefighters and other emergency response personnel while maintaining the clinical readiness of the department's EMS equipment and resources. This is a single-role EMS position; firefighter certification is not required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current New Mexico Advanced EMT (AEMT) or Paramedic license, or ability to obtain New Mexico licensure prior to performing independent patient care.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification appropriate to the provider's level of practice.
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate assigned emergency vehicles after completing required training and authorization.
  • Must pass a background check and meet Spaceport America security and site-access requirements.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. Person requirements associated with operations conducted at Spaceport America.
  • Physically capable of performing emergency medical duties, including lifting and moving patients and equipment and working in desert and other operational conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Current New Mexico Paramedic license.
  • ACLS and other advanced clinical certifications appropriate to the provider's level of practice.
  • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
  • Previous 911, fire-based EMS, industrial EMS, military EMS, remote-site medical, or similar emergency response experience.
  • Experience functioning as a primary or sole ALS provider.
  • Experience with emergency vehicle operations.
  • Familiarity with aerospace, aviation, industrial, or other high-risk operational environments.
  • Experience with mass-casualty incidents, triage, or medical standby operations.
  • Strong clinical judgment, teamwork, communication, and situational awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with limited immediate access to hospital resources.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide patient assessment, treatment, stabilization, and emergency care within the provider's New Mexico EMS scope of practice.
  • Triage patients and establish appropriate treatment and transportation priorities.
  • Provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) care when authorized by certification level, medical direction, and applicable protocols.
  • Coordinate patient transportation and interface with ground ambulance, air medical, and other healthcare resources as necessary.
  • Provide or support medical standby coverage for aviation, aerospace, testing, special events, and other Spaceport operations.
  • Work alongside SAFD firefighters and other emergency responders during fire, aircraft, hazardous materials, rescue, and other incidents where medical support is required.
  • Operate within the Incident Command System (ICS) and follow established procedures for safety, accountability, and patient care.
  • Perform daily EMS equipment, medication, supply, and apparatus readiness checks.
  • Maintain inventories and ensure medical equipment and supplies remain properly stocked and operational.
  • Complete required documentation, including patient care reports, equipment checks, training records, and other EMS-related records.
  • Participate in continuing education, EMS drills, scenario-based training, and multi-agency exercises.
  • Assist with EMS training and skills development for department personnel as assigned.
  • Maintain familiarity with emergency response routes, facilities, hazards, and operational areas throughout Spaceport America.
  • Assist with department readiness, safety, inspection, and other operational support activities when emergency response duties permit.
