About The Position

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Advanced Care Practitioner (ACP) for the Clallam Bay Corrections Center located in Clallam Bay, Washington. This position may be filled by a Physician Assistant-Certified or an Advance Care Nurse Practitioner (ARNP). The PA/ARNP objective is, under the supervision of the Facility Medical Director, to deliver quality health care to CBCC's patient population in a timely and professional manner, promote a healthy lifestyle and provide patient health-care education. This will include assessing, diagnosing, and treating the multitude of medical problems encountered. Additional objectives include monitoring, managing, coordinating and delivering health care and counseling, consulting of health services. Major administrative responsibilities include supervising and monitoring all level of health care services delivered to the Incarcerated Individuals population and assessing Health Service Managers and the Facility Medical Directors in monitoring expenditures, planning and organizing health care services, facilities and other programs. Practices in accordance with DOC Policy and the WA DOC Health Plan, participates in Health Services Quality Improvement activities as appropriate and participates in formal Clinical Oversight according to Facility and DOC Health Services Clinical Oversight structure. Requirements

  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants.
  • OR Must possess a valid Washington State license to practice as a Registered Nurse AND possession of a current license designated as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Washington AND Must hold unrestricted license to practice as a midlevel practitioner and prescribe scheduled drugs.
  • Licensure (PA-C, RN, ARNP) must be valid and continuously unrestricted.
  • Each employee is expected to maintain and adhere to the continuing education requirements for the applicable professional credential.
  • Each employee must adhere to legislation and/or law changes that may affect current licensure and/or registration requirements
  • Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Under rare circumstances this position may be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a mid-level health care provider at a correctional facility.
  • Certified Correctional Health Professional by Academy of Correctional Health Professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality medical care
  • Diagnose and treat health related problems within scope of practice in accordance with agency guidelines and within applicable standards of care.
  • Ensure continuity of care.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures as indicated and within scope of practice
  • Order, interpret and act upon diagnostic testing as indicated
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with agency guidelines including controlled substances as indicated.
  • Provide medical and technical assistance to other health Care personnel as needed.
  • Seek consultation with colleagues, staff physicians and outside medical consultants as indicated.
  • Admit and care for infirmary/observation patients as indicated.
  • Complete initial screening and physical examinations as indicated.
  • Update OMNI database and PULHES codes as indicated
  • Present cases at CRC as indicated.
  • Call duties
  • Provide effective communication and documentation
  • Effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and via computer or other electronic media with incarcerated individuals, their families, other health care personnel, custody and other institutional personnel
  • Legibly document subjective and objective clinical finding, as well as the actions taken to deliver all aspects of health care in the health records
  • Protect the confidentiality of health records
  • Maintain accurate, legible and complete records
  • Complete unusual incident reports as directed, collect data, investigate, and complete reports
  • Respond to verbal and written requests from incarcerated individuals and institution staff
  • Activity participate in clinical/facility-wide Coordinated Quality Improvement Program (CQIP) projects and programs .
  • Attend facility CQIP/QMP meetings and report back to nursing and support staff to keep nursing staff engaged in improving patient care at every level, on every shift, and at every bedside
  • Participate/represent facility on state-wide quality improvement initiatives; share our processes and learn from other facilities; implement best practices in patient care.
  • Participate in Health Services Quality Improvement activities
  • Practice in accordance with DOC Policy and incarcerated individuals Health Plan
  • Participate in formal clinical oversight according to facility and DOC Health Services Clinical Oversight Structure.
  • Consult with custody and other staff concerning health and safety of incarcerated individuals.
  • Provide medical health and safety advice with regards to incarcerated individuals to custody staff when necessary.
  • Delegate and assign patient responsibility through appropriate communication to the nurses and assistive nursing personnel.
  • Evaluate and consider the needs, condition, and stability of the patient, potential harm, complexity of task, and predictability of outcome to determine appropriate assignment
