About The Position

DSHS Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center is seeking Full-Time and On-Call Adult Training Specialist 2s to work in our Intermediate Care Facility. Our Adult Training Specialists are key to the success of empowering the lives of the people we serve by providing community living skill-training programs. You will work under the direction of the Adult Programs Supervisor as a member of an enthusiastic Interdisciplinary Team. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a vocational trainer working with people with disabilities in a community employment program or sheltered workshop
  • One year of experience as a teacher’s aide or paraprofessional in a special education or exceptional student services classroom within a school district
  • Two years of experience as an Attendant Counselor
  • One year of experience equivalent to an Adult Training Specialist 1
  • A total of 15 credit hours in at least two of the following areas (courses must be 100-level or higher): English, Psychology, Education or Special Education, Human Services

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating a desktop computer
  • Experience using Microsoft software programs, including Outlook and Word
  • Experience supporting people with IDD in strengthening everyday skills in ways that honor personal choice, rights, and quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Implement group and individual programs for people with developmental disabilities in classroom settings for vocational learning activities, such as environmental controls, relaxation, and other vocational readiness skills as outlined in the Individual Habilitation Plan.
  • Instruct, train and support people in developmental, educational, vocational, language, behavior, social, community survival, and other training programs
  • Conduct/facilitate various tabletop activities or other activities tailored to each resident
  • Teach residents to maintain safety in the classroom or vocational environment, and actively participate in the development of resident training plans, attend meetings, and provide program input information gathered from the classroom
  • Set-up, clean-up, and maintain upkeep of classroom, training, vocational, and habilitation areas
  • Document resident classroom progress and behaviors
  • Escort residents who may need assistance
  • Provide physical supports/intervention for residents, care for personal hygiene needs of residents, and check on diet plans when assisting a resident
  • Use email and state databases to report resident program data, and to develop, complete, and disseminate classroom assessments and other assessments
