About The Position

The Division of Disability Determination Services (DDDS), a division within DSHS’s Economic Services Administration, has an opening for an Examiner Support Specialist to join their team. DDDS staff are Washington State employees whose work is federally funded and directed by The United States Social Security Administration (SSA). Together, SSA and DSHS serve the public by providing an avenue to medical and financial resources by making disability determinations. As an Examiner Support Specialist 2, you will support disability claims processing by responding to customer inquiries, verifying and updating claim information, retrieving records, managing a limited caseload of specialized claims, and assisting team members by gathering information from claimants. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys organizing information, spotting and resolving issues, working in a team environment, and providing excellent customer service. Your attention to detail and ability to follow procedures will help keep claims moving forward and ensure customers receive timely updates. Note: This is an in-office position located in Spokane, WA.

Requirements

  • One year of experience at the DDS Examiner Support Specialist 1 level.
  • A combination of education and/or experience totaling three (3) years; experience in an office or customer service setting performing administrative tasks, answering telephones, operating office equipment, typing, and creating business correspondence/notes.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review electronic and paper disability claims from the Social Security Administration and the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, checking for accuracy and completeness.
  • Take appropriate action to resolve issues and follow up based on established policies and procedures.
  • Answer incoming calls, assess the caller’s needs, verify their identity, and help them, or direct them to the appropriate contact.
  • Provide clear and accurate information about agency programs and individual claims.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between federal and state data systems by researching and correcting errors independently.
  • Operate high-speed scanning equipment to process SSA claims files.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
  • Review and ensure the quality of scanned images and properly code electronic medical and technical records based on established guidelines.
  • Prioritize, analyze, identify, and code electronic medical and technical records using independent judgment about placement in the electronic files
  • Manage a caseload of Office of Hearings Operation claims and assist the Administrative Law Judge by gathering and preparing documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support daily operations.
