ADULT PROBATION OFFICER I
About The Position
An employee in this position is required to participate in all required training through the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision (ICOTS). The employee must be familiar with and keep current with modifications to the Interstate Compact rules and Regulations. The employee must abide by ICOTS bylaws and policies for completion of transfer applications. An employee in this position provides oversight, professional guidance, and ongoing professional collaboration with the supervising officer in the receiving state. He/she electronically corresponds (per ICOTS regulations) with the officers in the receiving state to ensure compliance with the rules of supervision, special conditions are being met and court ordered fines/costs are being paid. The employee also provides oversight, professional guidance, and ongoing counseling to persons assigned to his/her authority. He/she consults with offenders’ friends, families, and associates; employers; law enforcement and social service agencies; and other state Probation professionals, pursuant to composition and fulfillment of respective rehabilitation plans. The Officer monitors Offenders by telephone, computer, and afield; and prepares regular and special reports to his/her Supervisor and/or the Court, as the latter directs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, law enforcement or related field.
- Experience in a related field and/or internship.
- Act 33/34 clearances.
- Valid driver's license and positive driving record.
- Favorable criminal background check.
- Favorable child abuse and FBI clearances.
- Ability to complete Phase I (classroom) Safety Training.
- Ability to complete Phase II (physical) Control Tactics Training.
- Ability to complete and maintain Act 158 Firearms Certification, stress fire, night shoot and continuing education training.
Responsibilities
- Participate in all required training through the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision (ICOTS).
- Stay current with modifications to the Interstate Compact rules and Regulations.
- Abide by ICOTS bylaws and policies for completion of transfer applications.
- Provide oversight, professional guidance, and ongoing professional collaboration with the supervising officer in the receiving state.
- Electronically correspond with officers in the receiving state to ensure compliance with rules of supervision, special conditions, and payment of court-ordered fines/costs.
- Provide oversight, professional guidance, and ongoing counseling to persons assigned to authority.
- Consult with offenders’ friends, families, and associates; employers; law enforcement and social service agencies; and other state Probation professionals.
- Monitor offenders by telephone, computer, and afield.
- Prepare regular and special reports to Supervisor and/or the Court.
- Check emails and phone messages daily and respond within 24 business hours.
- Participate in primary and secondary court duty rotation.
- Carry a firearm when performing duties and pass annual firearm certification.
