About The Position

The Adult Education Teacher provides instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Educational Diploma (GED) subjects, meeting students’ individual needs and applicable Commonwealth statutes and program certification requirements. The role requires engaging students in one-on-one instruction across all five subjects, supervising students and aides in a classroom, maintaining accurate records, and facilitating other instructors. The position is based at Deerfield Correctional Center.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to engage students in one-on-one teaching of all five subjects.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise students and aides in a classroom setting.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate other instructors.
• Knowledge and experience of policies and procedures governing adult education.
• Working knowledge of all facets of basic adult education and adult literacy.
• Working knowledge of computer software appropriate for program needs.
• Competency in the relevant field of current licensure.

Nice To Haves

• Specialty training or licensure endorsement in Math or Science.
• Experience teaching adults and/or youth in a correctional or alternative education setting.
• Knowledge and experience of policies and procedures governing adult correctional education.
• Knowledge of correctional education classroom management.
• Ability to supervise students and inmate aides in a correctional facility.
• Knowledge of Department of Corrections (DOC) institutional policies and procedures.
