About The Position

This position provides comprehensive instructional and participant support services within Family Partnership’s adult education program. The ESL Instructor develops and delivers engaging instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) across classroom, small group, and individual learning settings. Instruction may also include Supplemental learning experiences/opportunities (ie Book Clubs, Reading Conversation Club, Cultural Exchange Workshops, Family Literacy) through Interdisciplinary/cross teaming/ collaboration with GED Instructor, Parent Educator, Employment and Career Specialist, Case Managers. The role manages participant intake and assessment processes—including orientations, CASAS testing, literacy and goal-setting activities—and maintains accurate student documentation. The instructor facilitates workshops, supports internships and worksite development opportunities, and collaborates closely with program supervisors and staff to ensure coordinated academic and supportive services for adult learners pursuing educational, workforce, and personal development goals. This position also supports the reporting needs for all grant requirements associated with Family Partnership. Supervision is received from the Human Services Manager.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in education, business administration, or a related field
Minimum of 1 year of experience in adult education instruction or a related field
Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications within 90 days
Knowledge of human growth, development and adult learning styles
Knowledge of group dynamics, cultural approaches, conflict-resolution techniques, and goal setting
Knowledge Local post-secondary institutions, employment services, and community resources for children, youth, and families
Knowledge of state and local adult education standards
Strong written (English) communication skills including public speaking, facilitating groups and presenting workshops/seminars, as well as the ability to effectively compile, analyze and present statistics and other program information
Skill in teaching, counseling, and mentoring
Skill and training in adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and providing trauma informed services
Skill in Microsoft 365 and other educational software
Skill in differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching
Skills in assessing learner needs and adapting instruction
Advanced skill in speaking, group facilitation, and workshop presentation
Ability to conduct literacy assessments
Ability to demonstrate creativity and originality in designing and implementing programs for diverse populations, including youth, young adults, and young parents, both male and female, with a wide range of literacy and job experience levels, etc.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism with families experiencing stress
Ability to use web based reporting tools (LACES, DLLR data entry)
Requires the ability to arrange and complete travel to various sites (using a car or other reliable transportation)
Ability to use varying learning styles and teaching approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multi-cultural setting
Ability to provide trauma informed services
Ability to manage and teach to a multilevel class and experience with individuals that have had an IEP, 504 plan, or challenges to learning
Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing technology in instruction, such as using GED Essential Ed (computer based learning)
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with persons of diverse backgrounds, including customers, public officials, co-workers and the general public
Ability to assess skills and apply curricula
Ability to market, analyze, and promote programming
Ability to work a varied schedule to accommodate evening sessions, workshops or special programs

Nice To Haves

Master’s Degree in education, business administration, or a related field
Experience teaching adult English learners, including those with varying literacy levels
Secondary Language Skills in Spanish or other spoken language
Experience working in a Family Support Service Center or similar professional environment
Experience with Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) testing, or another adult-learning platform

Responsibilities

Develop, plan, and deliver contextualized ESL instruction that integrates real-life application, academic skills, digital literacy, job readiness, and financial literacy, aligned with participant goals and labor market needs
Create and maintain up-to-date curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials for individual, small-group, and whole-class settings, ensuring instruction meets diverse learning styles and skill levels
Provide differentiated instruction and targeted tutoring to reinforce skills, remediate learning gaps, and support participants preparing for ESL, workforce, or GED-related goals
Design and facilitate workshops, supplemental learning experiences, and contextual learning activities in collaboration with program staff to strengthen academic readiness, life skills, and workplace competencies
Conduct comprehensive intake and orientation processes, including CASAS testing, oral/written assessments, literacy screenings, and individualized goal-setting
Monitor participant progress by maintaining accurate, up-to-date records such as attendance, assessment scores, service logs, progress notes, and monthly/quarterly reports
Prepare and review progress updates with learners, ensuring they understand their goals, milestones, and areas for improvement
Analyze assessment data to track learning gains, identify needs, and adjust instruction accordingly
Communicate assessment results and relevant information to educational partners, case managers, and grant funders as required
Participate in weekly case review meetings to coordinate wraparound academic and supportive services
Collaborate with staff to plan and support workshops and other supplemental learning experiences
Engage in cross department collaboration with Child development, GED, parenting and employment readiness to align services and ensure holistic supports
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with program, county and grant requirements
Participate in team meetings, professional development and program planning activities
Support preparation of grant related reports and documentation as needed
