About The Position

The Adult Education Instructor provides instructional services including teaching, assessment, and student support activities as assigned. The Instructor assists adult students in achieving high school equivalency credentials and improving core academic skills in math, language, science, and social studies. Additionally, the Instructor supports program goals by helping students demonstrate measurable skill gains in alignment with state and National Reporting System (NRS) standards. Instructors are required to adhere to instructional activities as outlined in Title II of WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act). The Adult Education Program is a grant-funded initiative; therefore, employment is contingent upon the terms and duration of the grant contract. Employment is not guaranteed and may be terminated at the College’s discretion. All employees are required to review, sign, and adhere to the terms outlined in their employment contract.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). to create documents, manage data, prepare reports, and support daily operations, as needed.
  • Knowledge of Jobs4TN and related record-keeping procedures to ensure accurate documentation, compliance, and tracking of student progress.
  • Knowledge of TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), OPT (Observed Performance Test), and Adult Education curriculum, with the ability to grade, interpret, and apply results to guide instruction, stay current with curriculum changes, assess needs, and implement improvements.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and manage multiple tasks effectively while meeting deadlines, working independently with minimal supervision, and collaborating as part of a team.
  • Ability to prepare and present information clearly for both small and large groups, while maintaining professional and ethical standards in all interactions with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to travel to satellite locations and work a flexible schedule, including evenings, and participate in local and state activities, professional development, and ongoing staff training initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Tennessee Teacher’s License (or approved waiver)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience within K-12 & Post-secondary.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, teach, and evaluate student work, ensuring lessons align with curriculum standards and student needs.
  • Implement and monitor classroom activities to create a positive learning environment.
  • Select and adapt instructional resources to support student abilities and learning goals.
  • Encourage student engagement and a supportive learning environment.
  • Conduct Adult Education Student Orientation and monitor testing using TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) and OPT (Observed Performance Test), when appropriate.
  • Assist in teacher and staff record-keeping through LACES (Literacy, Adult & Community Education System) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
