About The Position

Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island is seeking an Adult Education Instructor (ESL) to teach English to adult learners from diverse backgrounds. The organization aims to empower vulnerable individuals by providing wraparound services to overcome educational, cultural, economic, and language barriers. The Adult Education Instructor (ESL) will teach multi-level classes, plan lessons based on student needs, and maintain a conducive learning environment. The role involves supporting students with instruction and program services, monitoring attendance and academic progress, making routine operational decisions, meeting with a supervisor, and collaborating with program staff.

Requirements

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
TESOL training or a comparable certification for teaching ESL classes is required
Subject matter expertise/experience in specific content areas
Ability to relate well to groups of students of differing abilities and backgrounds
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and through correct written grammar
Ability to collaborate with colleagues individually and as a team

Nice To Haves

At least two years of teaching experience with adult learners is preferred
Bilingual ability preferred

Responsibilities

Teach multi-level classes
Plan lessons based on the learning needs of culturally diverse students
Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
Support students regarding instruction and program services
Monitor and record student attendance and academic progress
Make routine decisions regarding the everyday operation of the classes
Meet routinely with a supervisor
Work collaboratively and collegially with program staff
Create an online classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the interests of students
Engage learners with creative and stimulating instruction
Use and integrate technology for instructional and educational purposes
