About The Position

This is a part-time, grant-funded position for the 2026-2027 school year, with current funding extending through June 2029. The instructor will teach English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency preparation, and/or Digital Literacy. The role involves meeting scheduled classes, providing instruction aligned with district philosophy and objectives, and utilizing teaching methods suitable for adult learners with diverse backgrounds. The position is located at the Family Success Center at Pikes Peak Elementary School in Colorado Springs, CO.

Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree from an accredited college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Transcripts required.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in TESOL, education, or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of full-time or part-time classroom experience teaching adults is preferred.
  • Colorado Adult Basic Education Authorization is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and provide instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the District-approved course outline.
  • Use teaching methods and media designed to reach learners of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each learner the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.
  • Inform students of course requirements through a course syllabus, including specific objectives, means of attaining objectives, and methods of instruction.
  • Maintain appropriate proficiency and up-to-date knowledge in the subject matter area.
  • Writes lesson plans, grades assignments, and advises students.
  • Administers learner intake and skills assessment testing; Evaluate learners on a continuing basis to allow them to be aware of their own progress.
  • Completes periodic assessment and evaluation of learners' skills acquisition.
  • Maintain and submit records as required by policy and procedures; Prepares monthly department reports.
  • Recommend instructional materials, textbooks, appropriate instructional equipment, and supportive reference materials.
  • Participates in informational outreach activities regarding Harrison School District Two's adult education services.
  • Promote equal opportunity education within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
  • Enters instructional hours and monitors assessment data in LACES databases.
  • Demonstrate evidence and understanding of the concepts of diversity and multiculturalism and their application in the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
