The Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina seeks to hire an Adolescent Medicine physician to join the Adolescent Medicine Section within the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (GPAM). This is an open-rank, open track faculty position in the School of Medicine. The section comprises board-certified Adolescent Medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, LCSWs, and pediatricians focused on adolescent health. The role involves providing outpatient care in Raleigh and/or Chapel Hill clinical settings, with potential for inpatient consultative care as the section expands. Additional opportunities include providing medical care at youth detention centers and a youth psychiatric inpatient facility. The section also collaborates with a Hematology-Adolescent Medicine clinic for reproductive healthcare for patients with bleeding disorders and other hematologic issues, and with the UNC Center for Excellence for Eating Disorders. Further collaborations in other outpatient specialty clinics are possible. The GPAM division has a strong research program focusing on social and contextual factors on health, childhood adversity, and health inequities. Research interests within the Adolescent Medicine section include telehealth impact on adolescent consent and confidentiality, adolescent-friendly contraceptive decision-making tools, reproductive health autonomy, global health and HIV prevention, and eating disorders quality improvement. Opportunities for broader adolescent health research exist through the Gillings School of Public Health and the Sheps Center for Health Services Research. Medical education efforts, such as teaching medical students and residents, curriculum oversight, and rotation supervision, are also part of the role. The GPAM division is one of the largest in the Department of Pediatrics and includes Primary Care and Child Maltreatment. The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area offers a high quality of life with proximity to mountains and beaches.
