About The Position

The Supervisor oversees the overall management of the day-to-day care of the youth, operation of the facility, supervision of the Direct Care Counselors, and assists with the household budget. The Supervisor fosters team-building and positive program development. The Supervisor IV position provides on-call coverage at all congregate care sites.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in required. Experience in Wheeler’s congregate care programs can be substituted for education on a year for year basis when permitted by DCF.
  • 2 years of progressively responsible related work experience is required.
  • Experience working with high need youth and their families of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds as well as exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Program Manager to maintain a positive atmosphere within the milieu and ensure the well-being of the youth and staff in a safe physical environment.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of all congregate care facilities and populations served.
  • Provides assistance across programs.
  • Oversees, assists with and delegates daily tasks associated with the day-to-day operation of the homes (staffing, housekeeping, shopping, and transportation) and meeting the daily needs of the youth (appointment scheduling, programming, emotional, educational, behavioral, medical, etc.).
  • In conjunction with program manager, creates the staff schedule and manages staff overtime.
  • Provides coverage for staffing gaps according to departmental standards.
  • Provides 24-hour on-call coverage to all congregate care locations, according to standards mandated by licensing and regulatory agencies, in rotation with the other Supervisor IV supervisors.
  • Provides regularly scheduled supervision as assigned.
  • Uses positive behavioral strategies and procedures that facilitate the growth and development of youth with challenging behaviors.
  • Identifies potential risk factors and takes measures to reduce those risks in the milieu through reinforcement of positive and safe behaviors and trauma-informed and relationally-based therapeutic interventions.
  • Trains and participates in emergency safety interventions authorized and approved by the agency, when a youth presents with an imminent safety concern.
  • Assists with recruitment, hiring, and retention of new staff.
  • Facilitates and co-facilitates community meetings with youth and staff meetings as assigned.
  • Orients new staff, youth and families to the home and program.
  • Works collaboratively to promote successful goal attainment in the milieu and monitors quality and completeness of milieu notes, as assigned
  • Maintains required certifications and administers medication to youth according to standards mandated by licensing and regulatory agencies, as well as Wheeler Clinic policies.
  • Participates in and promotes quality improvement and outcome measure activities, submits all required documentation and reports in a timely manner.
  • Serves as role model for staff to promote strong work ethic and the use of evidence-based trauma-informed relational approaches/models of intervention with youth and families, as well as other staff members.
  • Ensures that staff provides culturally competent care and maintain sensitivity to and respect for clients' cultural traditions, values, and beliefs.
