About The Position

The Admitting Representative is responsible for obtaining demographic and financial data from patients and/or their families through interviews. This role involves preparing and delivering necessary patient documents, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring accurate updates to patient information. The position also requires understanding and adherence to hospital policies, emergency protocols, and quality improvement initiatives like HCAHPS and VBP goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of customer service experience required.
  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Prior admitting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Bilingual preferred and demonstrate excellent public relation and communication skills.
  • 30 wpm typing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Los Angeles County Fire Card (required within 30 days of hire).
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) (required within 30 days of hire).

  • Associates Degree.

Responsibilities

  • Verbalize and/or demonstrate knowledge of clinical information and practices essential to assuring provision of age-specific care to infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, staff meetings, in-services/workshops and successful completion and maintenance of required certifications.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in interviewing patients and/or family members to obtain required demographic and financial data.
  • Provide forms and factual information requiring comprehension and signatures, obtaining translator services if necessary.
  • Photocopy insurance notification cards, review for authorization requirements and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Obtain eligibility and/or authorizations and document it by end of shift or within a 24-hour period.
  • Prepare and deliver the patient’s addressograph, armband/ID, and chart to the appropriate department or individual to initiate patient care.
  • Prioritize registration and transportation per patient medical or scheduling needs.
  • Distribute copies of all patient documents to appropriate departments as assigned.
  • Coordinate volunteer duties, such as delivery of documents and patient transport.
  • Update patient demographic and financial information as made available and notify appropriate interested parties (e.g., MD, UR department).
  • Retrieve/deliver patient valuables, provide receipts, and secure them in the hospital safe.
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of roles during emergency/disaster situations.
  • Take into consideration the age-specific needs of the geriatric patient, assuring repetition of questions/comments and addressing any special physical needs.
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of computer downtime protocol.
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of department equipment and proper usage.
  • Exhibit appropriate telephone/fax/beeper protocol, answering promptly, identifying name and department, being courteous and helpful, and knowing commonly used extensions.
  • Incorporate the medical center’s mission of “quality care with compassion and respect” into daily performance of job functions.
  • Understand and verbalize VBP goals/targets.
  • Consistently participate in unit and hospital-specific action plans to improve HCAHPS scores.
  • Utilize AIDET in all settings.
  • Understand individual accountability for achieving Core Measures, HCAHPS, and other VBP goals.
  • Consistently support compliance and the Code of Conduct by maintaining privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting organizational assets, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting noncompliance, and adhering to applicable laws, regulations, accreditation, and license requirements, and hospital policies and procedures.
