The Admissions Specialist I is a compassionate member of the care team who welcomes patients and their families, putting them at ease and setting the tone for their visit. This role involves accurately gathering complete demographic information to ensure electronic health record integrity, identifying correct network coverage, and obtaining/validating healthcare benefits and/or pre-certification for applicable tests and/or procedures to maximize reimbursement. The specialist educates patients and/or families about legal, ethical, and compliance documents, ensures regulatory consents are signed, and engages with patients regarding their financial obligations, preparing estimates and collecting payments. They also ensure all payor and government required elements are completed correctly, stay updated on applicable regulations, and maintain customer service and/or productivity guidelines. This role requires being an engaged and willing partner who mentors peers, exhibits flexibility, adapts easily to change, participates in staff meetings, process improvement, special projects, and completes other duties as assigned. The specialist is responsible for maintaining daily Epic work queues and personal Employee Scorecard Dashboards, as well as awareness and accuracy of THR contracted insurance plans, communicating with patients/families about Out of Network status and potential financial implications.
