About The Position

Ascension Saint Thomas Behavioral Health Hospital is hiring an Admissions Registered Nurse. The hospital is an inpatient psychiatric facility in Nashville providing a full continuum of behavioral health treatment services for adults ages 18–65. The position is available on a PRN basis for day or night schedules, with pay ranging from $34.00 to $47.08 per hour depending on experience. The Admissions RN reviews referrals and medical documentation, assesses patients to determine appropriate care, coordinates admissions and transfers, and completes required clinical, insurance, registration, and consent documentation. The nurse collaborates with medical and psychiatric personnel, communicates with patients and families, and supports patient safety and appropriate follow-up care throughout the admissions process.

Requirements

Minimum Associate’s degree in Nursing.
At least one year of experience working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity; experience in the facility’s specialty area is preferred.
Clear and active nursing license in the state.
CPR certification required.
De-escalation/restraint certification required; training is available upon hire and offered by the facility.
First aid may be required depending on the state or facility.

Responsibilities

Review medical documentation for admissions, complete medication reconciliation, and obtain admission orders from physicians.
Facilitate emergency transfers when patients have medical conditions beyond the facility’s capabilities.
Review referrals from hospitals, facilities, and community agencies for medical and behavioral acuity and respond within facility policy timeframes.
Respond to inquiries about the facility and provide appropriate recommendations.
Assess patients to determine the appropriate level of care within the facility.
Collaborate with facility medical and psychiatric personnel on recommendations and admissions.
Facilitate the admissions process, including assessment, consent, and inventory of patient belongings.
Verify insurance benefits and secure initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission.
Monitor patient status during the admissions process in accordance with facility policy and physician orders.
Use web-based programs to track and review referrals.
Communicate projected admissions promptly to designated internal representatives.
Obtain clinical information from referral sources or patients, including medical comorbidity information, before admission when possible.
Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments when applicable, consult with the admitting physician, and communicate disposition recommendations to patients or families.
Prepare and maintain medical record documentation to support authorization at the requested level of care.
Complete initial pre-authorization before admission when possible and within payor timeframes.
Admit patients to the registration and accounting system and complete admission and consent forms.
Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude; acknowledge and work to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met.
Coordinate care and appropriate follow-up referrals for patients who are not admitted.
Prioritize patient safety, demonstrate urgency, and provide excellent customer service.
Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at 15-minute intervals, as specified in special precautions or individualized supervision guidelines.
Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
