About The Position

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking a versatile Admissions and Financial Aid Counselor to act as a liaison between prospective students, their families, and the campus community. This hybrid role involves guiding students through the college application and financial aid processes, from initial contact to understanding financial aid awards. The position is based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, with an anticipated annual salary of up to $46,300.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and adaptable disposition.
  • Ability to manage sensitive, confidential financial details with care.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in Higher Education.
  • Prior experience in Admissions (recruitment, territory management, yield events).
  • Prior experience in Financial Aid (FAFSA processing, counseling, managing loans/scholarships).

Responsibilities

  • Represent Farmington as an ambassador on and off campus, delivering public presentations, info sessions, and panels.
  • Conduct recruitment travel for 8 to 12 weeks annually to high schools, college fairs, receptions, and community organizations.
  • Cover 4 to 8 weekend campus events annually.
  • Evaluate prospective candidates in assigned territories and build relationships with prospective students, families, faculty, coaches, and staff.
  • Counsel families and prospective student-athletes on scholarship opportunities, the financial aid process, award packages, and checklist completion.
  • Partner with UMF's Peer-to-Peer Financial Literacy and Education Program to design financial education initiatives for incoming families.
