About The Position

The Admissions Counselor plays a dual role supporting both the outreach and enrollment efforts of the university. This position is responsible for developing and executing recruitment strategies to attract a diverse and qualified applicant pool, while also managing the end-to-end application review and processing workflow. Serving as an admissions counselor with a focus on graduate programs, this individual provides personalized guidance to prospective students from initial inquiry through enrollment.

Requirements

  • Four years of general office or secretarial experience; OR An Associate’s degree or certificate in office occupations or office technology and two years of general office or secretarial experience; OR A Bachelor’s degree and two years of general office or secretarial experience; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 2–4 of the required years of professional experience should be in college admissions or student services.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., salesforce), Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual communication tools.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s preferred in higher education, student affairs, or related field.
  • Experience with both recruitment and application processing in a university setting.
  • Knowledge of best practices in holistic application review and student engagement.
  • Familiarity with a specific student population (e.g., transfer, international, nursing, first-gen).
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement recruitment plans for assigned graduate programs
  • Represent the university at college fairs, school visits, community events, and virtual sessions.
  • Deliver presentations to prospective students and families about academic offerings, application procedures, financial aid, and student life.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with college advisors, and community-based organizations.
  • Advise and counsel prospective students on admissions requirements, timelines, and program options.
  • Counsel denied applicants on ways to strengthen application for future years.
  • Manage application files for assigned programs, ensuring timely and accurate processing of documents.
  • Review applications and supporting materials in accordance with admissions policies and program-specific requirements.
  • Ensure data integrity in the admissions software, student information system, and reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with operations and technical teams to troubleshoot application or system issues.
  • Assist other Admissions Counselors with processing as needed
  • Serve as a liaison to academic departments and support units to align recruitment and processing efforts.
  • Coordinate with marketing and communications on outreach materials, email campaigns, and social media content tailored to prospective students.
  • Assist in organizing and executing on-campus and virtual recruitment events, open houses, and admitted student days.
  • Report on recruitment trends, applicant conversion rates, and yield strategies.
  • Make data-informed recommendations to improve the recruitment pipeline and streamline processing procedures.
  • Participate in staff training, professional development, and process enhancement initiatives.
