About The Position

The Admission Counselor is responsible for managing a recruitment territory, counseling prospective students, and processing applications. This role involves extensive travel to high schools and community colleges, representing the university, and evaluating applications holistically. The position requires excellent communication and analytical skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a strong work ethic. The counselor will also be involved in marketing activities, data management, and other general admissions duties to meet enrollment goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to become an approved TU driver
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to present to small and large groups of people in various types of venues
  • Team player with a strong work ethic
  • Interest in and attentiveness to cross-cultural communication
  • Ability to actively contribute to a high-volume, fast-paced environment office setting
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to occasionally lift 30lbs and stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Familiarity and effective use of technology

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with student information or client relationship management systems
  • Prior experience with a college admission office (i.e., orientation leader or tour guide)
  • Ability to travel independently and on short notice

Responsibilities

  • Manage a recruitment territory by visiting high schools, community colleges, and attending college fairs.
  • Participate in workshops and panels, both in-person and virtually.
  • Serve as a liaison to develop relationships with high school counselors, alumni, and community-based organizations.
  • Provide recruitment support for office-wide recruitment events and outreach efforts.
  • Develop and implement a recruitment and outreach strategy for the assigned territory, including territory reports and analysis.
  • Counsel prospective, admitted, and enrolled undergraduate students on admission to TU.
  • Represent TU by providing excellent customer service and information to students and families via phone, chat, email, and in-person/virtual meetings.
  • Understand and apply admissions policies and requirements.
  • Conduct information presentations on- and off-campus.
  • Evaluate undergraduate student applications for admission and scholarship awards through a holistic review process.
  • Enter and maintain recruitment, application, and enrollment data.
  • Complete general admissions duties including customer service, applicant processing, holistic review, on-campus events, special projects, and campus committees.
