The Administrator in Training (AIT) program is a unique and intensive on-the-job training program designed for individuals looking for a career in the healthcare executive field as a Nursing Home Administrator. Requirements

  • Must meet the minimum regulatory requirements for licensure in Texas.
  • Previous experience working in a skilled nursing facility, nursing home, or comparable long‑term care environment is required.
  • Must be passionate about serving and protecting the frail, sick and elderly.
  • Must have a professional and tactful demeanor allowing him/her to effectively deal with personnel, residents/patients, family members, visitors, physicians, government agencies/personnel, and the general public even under stressful or emotional circumstances.
  • Must be an inspirational leader and mentor who brings out the best in his/her managers and staff.
  • Must possess a keen sense of business management guided by a strong set of values and ethics.
  • Pre-employment criminal background screening required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior business management experience preferred.
  • MBA or MHA preferred, but other advanced degrees or a Bachelor’s Degree will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain practical on-the-job training in a nursing home environment under the direct supervision of an experienced Administrator preceptor/mentor.
  • Rotation through the various departments and duties in a skilled nursing facility.
  • Education on the interrelationships of the facility with outside parties and government agencies (such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
  • Study of regulations and requirements associated with the operation of a skilled nursing facility.
  • Education on business/fiscal accounting management and principles of risk management and health care compliance.
