About The Position

The Iowa Department of Education is seeking a highly qualified Administrative Support Assistant 3 to join the Bureau of Educational Examiners. This role will provide key support and communication to educators in Iowa regarding their Education Licensure. The position involves processing license applications, determining eligibility, issuing licenses, and managing confidential data. The department's mission is to ensure all students experience a world-class education, and this role contributes to that mission by supporting educators.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
  • A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.

Responsibilities

  • Be a key point of contact for Iowa educators seeking license issuance, renewal and extensions.
  • Receives/screens visitors, emails and telephone calls; answers routine questions and routes others to the appropriate staff person for handling.
  • Intake and evaluate license applications.
  • Determine eligibility based on established code and administrative rules and bureau procedures.
  • Issue accurate licenses to the field.
  • Opens/distributes mail; composes standardized responses to routine inquiries.
  • Support division-wide processes, policies and procedures, in collaboration with our teams.
  • Recommend new or improved procedures for standardizing, modernizing and simplifying processes that help to improve outcomes and collaboration between staff.
  • Assist in management of confidential data and information.
