About The Position

Join the Virginia Department of Health's Center for Community Health Improvement (CCHI) as an Administrative Coordinator and play a critical role in advancing initiatives that improve the health and well-being of Virginians. CCHI leads statewide community health improvement efforts, including implementation of Virginia's 2025–2029 Plan for Well-Being, and works with local health districts, communities, healthcare organizations, state agencies, and cross-sector partners to translate health priorities into meaningful action. The Administrative Coordinator is an essential member of the CCHI team and provides the organizational and operational support that allows the Center to successfully carry out this important work. In this role, you will coordinate meetings and statewide convenings, support internal and external partners, assist with scheduling, travel, procurement, contracts, records, communications, and other administrative activities that keep complex initiatives moving forward. Your work will directly support CCHI staff as they provide technical assistance to local health districts, engage communities, build partnerships, monitor progress, and advance strategies addressing Virginia's most pressing health challenges, including maternal and infant health, mental health and substance use, chronic disease, obesity, violence prevention, and housing, transportation, and economic stability.

Requirements

  • Excellent report writing, oral presentation skills; effective verbal and written communication
  • Knowledge with state laws and regulations and the state legislative rulemaking processes
  • Ability to research, apply findings, identify various policy options and potential impact
  • Ability to work effectively with professionals and community groups to obtain information, build consensus and achieve desired outcomes
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs a variety of complex administrative tasks, in support of an agency head with responsibilities that affect all field and central office work units.
  • Work regularly requires extreme discretion, interpretation of policies, procedures or processes and frequent interaction with officials.
  • May provide guidance to other staff as an information resource.
  • Conducts research or assembles information and develops summaries in support of another administrative, technical or professional staff member.
  • May type, file, schedule appointments, make reservations, sort mail and perform reception duties.
