About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Workers’ Claims has exclusive jurisdiction over workers' compensation matters and is the agency responsible for administering claims and ensuring compliance with the workers’ compensation provisions contained in KRS Chapter 342. The Department is committed to improving service and reducing costs to its stakeholders in the Commonwealth. The Department of Workers’ Claims is seeking to fill an Administrative Specialist Senior position located within the Division of Claims Processing. This position requires performance of duties within the state of Kentucky. At the time employment commences, the employee is required to be able to commute to and work in Frankfort, Kentucky. The preferred candidate for this position will demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and work cooperatively with a team, have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and a history of working with customer service, databases and reports, and have a working knowledge of the Kentucky Workers Compensation systems and processes. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to safeguard and secure all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete training, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies, and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends. Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of professional, administrative, or business experience.
  • Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • History of working with customer service, databases and reports.
  • Working knowledge of the Kentucky Workers Compensation systems and processes.
  • Ability to safeguard and secure all confidential and sensitive information.
  • Willingness to complete training, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies, and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the division head by processing applications for new claims, re-opened medical dispute claims, and motions for interlocutory relief: in-depth insurance research, analyze and interpret data, assign proper carrier to claim, update database with parties, research and confirm addresses, generate appropriate letters, and confirm all parties are notified. Authorize routing of claim when necessary.
  • Audit claim by reviewing files to verify completion of claim. Evaluate closing order and agreement for closure with no open issues remaining. In accordance with department policies and procedures, make determination to purge file or return file to Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) staff for correction and completion. Maintain the log of purged claims.
  • Schedule the assignment of new and re-opened medical dispute claims to the ALJs. Prepare and generate formal notices for all involved parties by scheduling cases through the docket program. Verify that cases are correctly coordinated by region, date, time, and Administrative Law Judge. Log all information relating to the scheduling of dockets.
  • Communicate and interpret supporting policies and procedures relating to the functions of the division and provide detailed information to departmental staff regarding the status of claims and any issues relating to the duties and responsibilities of the division.
