About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency with over 14,000 employees responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This position provides administrative support to a multi-custody male correctional facility, focusing on Human Resources duties such as processing Personnel Action Requests. The role involves answering phones, serving as the point of contact for Worker's Compensation claims, managing Leave of Absence (LOA) actions, Family Medical Leave (FML), and the separations process. Additionally, the position acts as a benefits liaison for new hires and during Open Enrollment, serves as an expert on the hiring process, and utilizes the FIORI system for employee actions, time and leave management, and correcting time entries. The role also addresses leave or pay problems, oversees compensatory time accrual and usage, manages adverse weather leave liabilities, and provides information to employees regarding time, leave, and benefits policies, as well as assistance with retirement preparation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND two years of related administrative experience ; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Documented working knowledge of word processing or spreadsheet programs.

Responsibilities

  • Answering telephones, directing phone calls, and taking and delivering messages to staff.
  • Serving as the point of contact for facility Worker's Compensation claims which includes completing & submitting all Logs/Summaries.
  • Possessing knowledge of Leave of Absence (LOA) actions, Family Medical Leave (FML), and the separations process.
  • Acting as benefits liaison for New Hires and during Open Enrollment.
  • Acting as expert regarding the hiring process.
  • Keying employee actions into FIORI and following through to completion of each action.
  • Utilizing the FIORI system to administer all areas of time and leave management.
  • Correcting time entries on an as needed basis.
  • Troubleshooting leave or pay problems which pertain to negative leave balances or payroll discrepancies.
  • Overseeing the accrual and usage of compensatory time to include holiday comp, gap hours, and overtime comp.
  • Managing the adverse weather leave liabilities.
  • Providing information to employees on policies surrounding time and leave management.
  • Providing information to employees on all benefits related to employment.
  • Working with employees in preparation for retirement.
