About The Position

The Office of the Public Defender is seeking well organized, customer service and detail-oriented applicants with good time management and problem-solving skills proficient in Microsoft Office to fill a full time Administrative Officer I Supervisor position in its Wabash District Court Division office in Baltimore City. The Administrative Officer I Supervisor is responsible for the management, supervision and coordination of support staff operations for our Wabash District Court Division office in Baltimore City; this includes the ability to perform and assign all the tasks of the core staff. Travel between offices may be required. GRADE 13 LOCATION OF POSITION 5800 Wabash Ave, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 Main Purpose of Job Administrative Officer I Supervisor is administrative work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans or policies. Employees in this classification are assigned administrative responsibilities involving the analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvements. Employees in this classification supervise professional and/or support staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • One year of administrative staff or professional work.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Access to a motor vehicle or ability to navigate public transportation.
  • Ability to communicate with clients and visitors.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work in various positions.
  • Ability to travel to various courtrooms and office environments throughout the State.

  • Experience planning and directing activities or managing the daily operations of an organizational unit or program.
  • Experience working with a disadvantaged client base.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications.

  • Possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and coordination of all office workload, attorney and support staff interactions, and oversees the effective operation within the office to service our clients.
  • Serving on the office Leadership Team, collaborating on strategy, long term planning, and new initiatives.
  • Representing the office in dealing with the OPD Administration on staff issues, as well as managing the office relationships with contract attorneys and outside organizations affecting the administration of the office.
  • Serving as primary problem solver for daily issues that office staff cannot handle, such as unusual non-legal client questions, logistic problems, staff issues and docket preparation.
  • Performing and assigning all the tasks of the core staff.
