About The Position

The State's Attorney's Office for Charles County is seeking a detail-oriented and professional Legal Assistant to provide administrative support to prosecutors in a fast-paced criminal justice environment. This position plays an important role in case preparation, records management, and serving as a point of contact for law enforcement agencies, victims, witnesses, and the public.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to quickly learn specialized software and digital case management systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to view objectionable or graphic material related to criminal investigations and prosecutions.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Legal, law enforcement, court, or administrative office experience is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist prosecutors with case preparation, scheduling, and trial support.
  • Maintain and organize electronic and physical case files.
  • Enter, update, and retrieve information in case management systems and databases.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents as assigned.
  • Answer and route telephone calls professionally.
  • Schedule meetings, court appearances, and appointments.
  • Communicate effectively with victims, witnesses, law enforcement personnel, court staff, attorneys, and members of the public.
  • Perform general administrative and clerical duties as needed.
