About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 19,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 22% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color. Successful SCSD educators are passionately committed to urban education and all in for Syracuse students. The district is committed to ensuring that there is effective school leadership at the helm of every school, district department, and a high-quality teacher in every classroom. Administrative Interns provide transformational leadership to planning and managing schools and departments. This includes assisting in implementing a positive school and district climate that supports the whole student, as well as facilitating support for staff engaging in Crew across schools and departments. The Administrative Intern of Collaborative Strategies and Professional Learning will collaborate with students, community members, other SCSD central office staff, building staff, consultants, as well as other internal/external resources and constituents to coordinate the efforts of Crew across SCSD. The Administrative Intern of Collaborative Strategies and Professional Learning will help coordinate climate and culture improvement initiatives across SCSD, supporting both staff and students.

Requirements

Possession of a Master's Degree
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience
Adaptable to the complexities of the urban school environment
Strong belief that all students can learn at high levels and focus on building this culture school-wide
Proven experience in teaching in urban schools to accelerate student academic and learning performance
Demonstrated success establishing a safe and positive school and/or classroom culture that is conducive to student needs and student learning
Familiar with classroom and/or school level best practices to build and sustain change
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in education policy and research, including comprehensive assessment systems and data-driven instruction
Experience participating in successful design and delivery of educator professional development
Demonstrated success in school leadership activities (student activities, department head, etc.)
Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire
New York State Administrative Internship Certificate, School Building Leader (SBL) Certificate, or School District Administrator Certificate required.

Nice To Haves

Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)
Preference will be given to those internal candidates who have participated in the Syracuse Aspiring Leadership Academy (SALA).

Responsibilities

Work closely with colleagues, students, and community partners to create a cohesive and supportive educational experience for all students and staff engaged in Crew.
Utilize data effectively to inform instruction, track student/staff progress, and implement evidence-based strategies in Crew.
Develop and implement creative and innovative methods to engage students and enhance learning outcomes in a supportive climate and culture engaged in Crew.
Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by staying current with educational research, attending professional development opportunities, and integrating new knowledge into practice.
Adapt to the diverse and evolving needs of students, providing personalized and flexible support to ensure their success.
Serve as the facilitator of the District Crew Committee to support the development of school and department-based Crew Committees.
Support, monitor, and oversee the expansion of student and staff Crew across more schools and departments across the district.
