About The Position

This role serves as the Administrative House Supervisor, functioning as a Registered Nurse, responsible for overseeing patient care areas, managing staffing, and coordinating services during assigned shifts. The position operates within the hospital's chain of command, ensuring adherence to policies, patient benefit, and compliance with regulations like HIPAA. Responsibilities extend to providing direct patient care in emergencies, mediating staff issues, coordinating after-hours services, and responding to all safety codes and emergencies. The role also involves administrative reporting, case management, and ensuring operational continuity during off-hours.

Requirements

  • Current Indiana Registered Nurse License required
  • Current certification in ACLS or ALS, BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers and PALS required
  • BSN required
  • Must complete Incident Command module and PALS within six months of starting the job.

  • Minimum of 5 years of RN experience in a hospital patient care area preferred

Responsibilities

  • Rounds in all patient care areas to ascertain condition of patients, evaluate staffing needs and provide support to caregivers.
  • Determines the distribution and utilization of personnel during current or upcoming shifts related to staffing needs, high census alerts, floating and/or use of Economic Time Off (ETO).
  • May provide direct patient care during periods of high volume/low staffing or emergency situations.
  • Coordinates and evaluates services rendered by and to all departments and customers during assigned shift and on an ongoing basis.
  • Documents pertinent information or involvement in customer care in the patient record if necessary.
  • Serves as mediator and mentor for staff and customers as needed.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor, and when necessary the Chief Executive Officer and/or the designee informed regarding circumstances or situations which have or may have serious impact.
  • Keeps administrative staff and department directors/managers informed regarding condition of patients, follow-up actions required, and any special conditions via daily administrative report.
  • Ensures adherence to established JMH and nursing policies while ensuring all plans of action and decisions are made for the benefit of the patient and JMH following HIPPA guidelines.
  • Provides case management and social service information after hours as needed.
  • Coordinates surgery team after hours.
  • May perform and/or coordinate vascular access services after hours as needed.
  • Serves as the administrator on site if emergency operations need to be initiated or continued.
  • Completes in-service education and all required competencies.
  • Follows protocols for obtaining or mixing drugs when pharmacist is unavailable.
  • Follows protocols for obtaining necessary equipment when departments are closed or staff is unavailable.
  • Works with laboratory personnel to coordinate activities of the body holding area, coroner activities, organ donation, paperwork and release of bodies.
  • Responds appropriately to all safety codes and emergency situations, including but not limited to rapid response calls, code blue, code stemi and code neonate.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities as assigned.
  • Promotes positive employee relations by using professional communication, fulfilling JMH’s mission and values and demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
