About The Position

This is a full-time position where the Administrative Hearing Officer will conduct administrative hearings in the appropriate manner as required by Kansas Supreme Court rules, 3rd Judicial District local rules, Kansas law and statutes, and Kansas Child Support guidelines. The hearings will cover paternity actions, establishment of child support/medical support, enforcement of child support and medical support (including motions to enforce, contempt citations, warrants, income withholding, collections, and arrearages), and registering liens from out-of-state support orders. The role also includes other duties as determined by the Chief Judge of the 3rd Judicial District.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree with 5 years’ experience
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Kansas
  • Certificate of good standing from the Kansas State Bar Association
  • Ability to understand, explain, interpret, and apply laws, rules, and regulations associated with the child support establishment and enforcement program
  • Excellent organizational, written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to execute complex tasks simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and make independent decisions

Nice To Haves

  • Legal experience in domestic relations law with child support enforcement experience
  • Residency/Familiarity with 3rd Judicial District

Responsibilities

  • Conducts administrative hearings in the appropriate manner as required by Kansas Supreme Court rules, 3rd Judicial District local rules, Kansas law and statutes, and Kansas Child Support guidelines for paternity actions/establishment of paternity.
  • Conducts administrative hearings for the establishment of child support/medical support, including post-decree motions.
  • Conducts administrative hearings for the enforcement of child support and medical support, which includes any activity in the case regarding motions to enforce, contempt citations, issuance of warrants, income withholding, and activities associated with collections and arrearages.
  • Registers liens resulting from out-of-state support orders.
  • Performs other duties as determined by the Chief Judge of the 3rd Judicial District.
