About The Position

The Administrative Fellowship is a two-year opportunity working with the CEO and senior leaders of the Vanderbilt Hospitals and Clinic. This position will gain broad exposure to an academic medical center and develop a better understanding of operations, finances, physician services, and patient care services while working on various in-depth projects. The fellow will follow the See One, Do One, Lead One structure. Requirements

  • Masters-level graduates from programs in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or Public Health.
  • Must have a master's degree from an accredited university or program prior to starting the fellowship in July.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to implement change for positive outcomes
  • Collaborates with Department Heads and appropriate Hospital or Clinic Directors to create goals and service standards for departments.
  • Documents service standards in appropriate format.
  • Creates and provides training and educational tools for use throughout entity.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills to guide staff/teams toward an improved outcome
  • Participates in/Observes day-to-day departmental activities/operations to identify process inefficiencies and potential areas that need improvement.
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing to multidisciplinary team members and administrative leadership.
  • Gathers/Analyzes and presents data to guide future outcomes
  • Gathers data during assessment phase and gains an understanding of departmental functions
  • Uses benchmarking tools to compare activities of internal departments to the ideal standard.
  • Uses analyses to develop productivity targets, performance measures and redesign the workflow process.
  • Makes recommendations for improvement to administrative leadership based on data analyses.
  • Provides data analysis for various projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrates fiscal accountability
  • Evaluates organizational functions and structure to determine the allocation and utilization of resources.
  • Identifies and initiates implementation of opportunities to improve efficiencies
  • Works with financial staff to help project future budgetary needs based on implementation of new processes as well as anticipated changes within the department.
  • Works with Financial Manager for Hospital Administration to model the impact of operational and process changes on the organization.
