Peraton provides management and technical support for NASA’s scientific balloon program, which enables science missions for NASA and universities across the United States and international scientific communities. Scientific balloon missions offer researchers inexpensive, relatively quick, long-duration access to near-space altitudes and environments. These missions cost significantly less than satellite missions and can accommodate heavy experiments (over 5000 lbs) for extended periods (weeks to months). Balloon missions have led to significant scientific discoveries in areas such as cosmic rays, gamma-ray and X-ray astronomy, optical and UV astronomy, atmospheric sciences, and cosmic microwave background studies. Our team is based at the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility (CSBF) in Palestine, TX, where we design, analyze, build, and assemble support hardware and balloon gondola payloads. We conduct launches from various locations within the US (Texas, New Mexico, Hawaii) and globally, including Antarctica, Sweden, New Zealand, and Australia. Our engineers and technicians provide support for launches and recoveries worldwide. The Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility is seeking a temporary employee to monitor the ground station during balloon missions. Ground station monitoring begins once a mission is launched and operates 24/7 until the mission concludes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking temporary employment, with shifts available in the early morning or overnight.
