About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor, this position will provide clerical support services to the Maintenance Department.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience
Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

Experience using Microsoft Word.
Experience using Microsoft Excel.
Experience in the use of various office machines.
Experience with clerical/secretarial skills.

Responsibilities

Maintaining files/records according to departmental policy, to allow for quick, easy access, and retrieval of information requested.
Composing reports with limited instructions from supervisor, including proofreading documents for spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Comprehending and entering computer-generated data.
Reviewing completed tasks to ensure accuracy/integrity of information.
Multitasking and meeting daily/monthly deadlines.
Working well independently, as well as, in very close proximity to offenders and other staff.
Operating various office equipment including a multi-line telephone system, fax machines, computers, typewriters, calculators, and copiers.
