About The Position

The Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness (GLAD) is a private non-profit organization founded in 1969 with 13 locations serving 10 counties in Southern California. GLAD's mission is to protect the civil rights and ensure equal access for the deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled communities to all of life's opportunities. The organization's general purpose is to promote the educational, health, housing, vocational, cultural, social, and recreational welfare of its constituents. Specifically, GLAD acts as a coordinating agency addressing the broad social service needs of these individuals through direct service provision, advocacy, research, and information dissemination. This Administrative Assistant position is a non-exempt, 100% FTE role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years’ clerical/office experience.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language required.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must possess the ability to relate and be sensitive to deaf persons with varied communication skills and language levels, and be able to work with a diverse, multi-ethnic population.
  • Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform professionally.
  • Punctuality and reliability are a must.
  • Must maintain a cooperative relationship with co-employees, directors, and the CEO.
  • Must have reliable transportation and maintain up-to-date auto insurance.
  • Selected candidate must complete and pass a background check of references, criminal background screening and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Canva, video editing, graphic design, and managing social media is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules appointments for consumers to meet with advocates.
  • Handles the Information and Referral process.
  • Manages the agency’s lobby area.
  • Greets and guides all visitors, including vendors, consumers and job candidates.
  • Ensures completion of paperwork, sign-in and security procedures.
  • Handles special administrative projects for the Regional Director.
  • Answers and transfers all incoming voice, videophone, and TTY calls.
  • Performs clerical duties, including but not limited to delegating and responding to emails in addition to other light office duties as needed.
  • Enters consumer statistics into computer database.
  • Assists with managing social media for the office including creating flyers for workshops and events, managing monthly e-news emails to distribute, and keeping up to date with posting on the social medias.
  • Performs such tasks and responsibilities as may be delegated.
