About The Position

The Colorado Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking dedicated individuals to join their team. The DNR manages and conserves Colorado's natural resources for present and future generations, balancing development with conservation. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) specifically works to perpetuate wildlife resources, provide a quality state parks system, and offer enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities. This administrative position supports Area 1 and Area 5 staff in the Northeast Region, providing essential office and customer service functions. The role involves direct public interaction, license sales, providing information on parks and wildlife regulations, assisting with hunter education, and managing office operations. The position also plays a key role in the financial management of the work units, including budget management, vendor payments, and processing claims. This role is crucial for the effective execution of the agency's strategic plan within the Northeast region.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, Program or project management, Administrative Assistant, Front Desk, Call center, office environment, project management, handling of money, project management, customer service (internal or external) or experience related to the work assigned to this position.
  • OR A combination of related education in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Aquatic Biology/Fishery Science/Aquaculture/Fishery Management, Economics, Public Administration, Communications, Public Engagement/volunteer management, Education, Business, Program Management/Project Management, Computer Science, Applied Computing, Computer Engineering, IT, Accounting, Finance and/or relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, Program or project management, Administrative Assistant, Front Desk, Call center, office environment, project management, handling of money, project management, customer service (internal or external) or experience related to the work assigned to this position equal to three (3) years.
  • State of Colorado residency is required at the time of application.
  • Background Check required.
  • Criminal History (handles cash/firearms) and Driving Record (drives state vehicles).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Required to travel throughout assigned area.
  • May be required to stay overnight depending on meeting schedules.
  • Travel in adverse weather and road conditions may be possible.
  • Single and overnight travel throughout the state at times is required to attend staff meetings/trainings, drive vehicle to shop, or obtain equipment not available through delivery.
  • Must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.

  • Experience using Kronos UKG and CORE for processing state requisitions (SRQs) and receiving reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in purchasing and P-card management in compliance with State Fiscal Rules and procurement policies.
  • Previous experience managing daily/weekly/monthly staffing and/or OC calendar.
  • Ability to compile, proof, and edit complex administrative reports by auditing source data across multiple systems.
  • Familiarity with FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act).
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously while meeting strict departmental and payroll deadlines.
  • Experience handling sensitive personnel records, including licensure, certifications, and protected health information.
  • Intermediate skills in writing, proofreading, and drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or administrative guides.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Sites, Drive) and Microsoft Office Suite to manipulate data and create professional presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative services and clerical support to Area 1 and Area 5 staff.
  • Organize and implement office procedures and perform assigned administrative duties.
  • Assist Northeast Region front desk staff with customer service duties.
  • Serve as the first contact for the public/customers/agencies in person, by phone, or by email.
  • Determine customer needs, handle requests, sell licenses, collect information, provide education, and make referrals.
  • Answer technical questions regarding Parks and Registrations, hunting, and fishing.
  • Convey information about agency laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Assist law enforcement officers in gathering and disseminating information.
  • Coordinate and administer hunter education classes.
  • Monitor program products and brochures for adequate availability of supplies.
  • Interview and collect information from internal and external contacts.
  • Determine and assist with office protocol for handling volatile situations and conflict resolution.
  • Recommend changes to big game brochures, limited license computer systems, and regulations.
  • Create and revise office procedures and write procedure manuals.
  • Design forms and general office record-keeping systems.
  • Maintain office equipment and ensure adequate availability of office supplies.
  • Develop and track calendars for Area Wildlife Managers and Assistant Area Wildlife Managers.
  • Establish office procedures and criteria for information storage and dissemination.
  • Monitor request materials to determine future needs.
  • Modify or suggest modifications to brochures and other public materials.
  • Sell CPW products, assess customer product needs, and implement established processes.
  • Determine compliance with hunter safety requirements and reissue lost, missing, or damaged hunter safety cards.
  • Utilize electronic systems to fulfill customer product needs, handle cash and credit card sales.
  • Update customer information in the database and report duplicate records.
  • Schedule hunter education and other events.
  • Assist hunter safety instructors with materials.
  • Assist regional staff with public meetings, special projects, activities, and events.
  • Provide general office/clerical support to regional staff.
  • Communicate information and dispatch field staff via phone or two-way radio.
  • Manage the budget for Area 1 and Area 5 work units.
  • Complete and process financial documents, including payments to vendors.
  • Research payments, communicate internally and externally with vendors, and make independent decisions for problem resolutions.
  • Prepare and review receiving reports, verify accuracy of vendor invoices, tax IDs, and addresses.
  • Manage One Card allocation for Area 1 and 5 work units.
  • Process game damage claims.
  • Process travel reimbursements and miscellaneous expenses.
  • Design and monitor spreadsheets to record and track expenditures.
  • Serve other duties as needed by the region(s) as determined by the regional manager or deputy regional manager.
