About The Position

Galveston College is seeking an Administrative Assistant I to provide support for the college. This role requires a High School Diploma or GED with two years of secretarial experience, office training, or related experience. The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, and be able to manage work assignments effectively with minimal supervision. A cooperative attitude, dedication to the College's mission, and strong communication skills are essential for maintaining harmonious working relationships. A general understanding of college operations and procedures, along with proficiency in computer skills including new software acquired by the College, is also required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years secretarial experience, office training, or related experience
  • Excellent knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word
  • Excellent knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office
  • Excellent knowledge and experience using Excel
  • Ability to structure work assignments to produce maximum quality and quantity with a minimum of supervision
  • Cooperative attitude and dedication to the mission of the College
  • Ability to communicate well with people and maintain harmonious working relationships
  • General knowledge of college operations and procedures
  • Strong working knowledge of computer skills to include new software the College acquires

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher in business administration, office management, or related field
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in an educational or public-sector environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • Experience with database systems (such as Banner, Colleague, or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience supporting department budgets, purchase orders, and financial recordkeeping
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Demonstrated discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
