About The Position

This is a seasonal opportunity with an anticipated end date of November 28, 2026. The Department of Natural Resources is responsible for the development, management, conservation, and protection of forest, mineral, parks, and wildlife resources, and the administration of the province's Crown land. This role involves delivering essential support services to the public and district staff while providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced, customer service-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of related experience (such as administrative support, customer/client service experience, cash handling). An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • A Valid NS Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Valid (Standard) First Aid Certificate and WHMIS Training.
  • Working knowledge, and previous experience in computer use, including internet, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook email, and web-based applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Excellent communication skills (both orally and in writing).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Discretion and the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to be a team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and set priorities.
  • Ability to efficiently work within deadlines with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of secretarial/office administration training.
  • Customer service training.
  • Knowledge of Natural Resources & Renewables policies and regulations and hunting and fishing license sales.
  • Experience and/or training in radio communication.
  • Knowledge of forest fire suppression activities.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety act and regulations.
  • Experience coordinating duties such as calendar management and composing and editing correspondence.

Responsibilities

  • Operating the front desk, including performing a variety of general reception and administrative duties.
  • Operating radio/telephones.
  • Data entry.
  • Processing mail.
  • Photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
  • Processing the sale of various hunting & fishing licenses and permits.
  • Assisting in preparing, organizing, and maintaining an electronic/manual file management system.
  • Maintaining and updating Departmental/Government databases and computerized systems.
  • Assisting in the management of the Park Registration/Reservation System.
  • Acting as Commissioner of Oaths in accordance with the Notaries and Commissioners Act for Administering Oaths.
  • Complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, safety policies and programs, and providing OH&S program support.
  • Supporting various wildlife activities including data collection and labelling of specimens.
  • Providing essential support services to staff as a radio and phone operator during Wildfire emergencies, including receiving, monitoring, and updating incoming fire calls/reports and arranging for services as requested.
