About The Position

Southern University at New Orleans, a public, historically black university, empowers and promotes the upward mobility of diverse populations of traditional and nontraditional students through academic programs, teaching, research, and service to achieve excellence in higher education using various teaching and learning modalities. The Health Information Management Systems (HIMS) program is developed in accordance with the stated mission of Southern University at New Orleans and on the belief that the vital information generated regarding health care is needed by the patient, community, health care administrators, medical staff and other designated recipients. The primary mission of the Division of HIM is to improve the health care delivery system through the education and training of students who are knowledgeable about the management of health information systems, as well as provide service to the health care community and the HIM profession. The Division of HIM is dedicated to the creation, transmission, and application of knowledge relating to health information management. In addition, the program seeks to prepare students for lifelong learning. In this role, the Administrative Assistant provides administrative support for the Health Information Management program. The Administrative Assistant also provides administrative support for the Museum Studies program. Requirements

  • Two years of experience in administrative services.
  • Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support for the Health Information Management program.
  • Provides administrative support for the Museum Studies program.
  • Responds to requests for information; may require interpretation of department rules and regulations.
  • Independently composes and types correspondence for signature of supervisor regarding administrative matters, office policies, or programs.
  • Compiles and types special reports by selecting relevant information from a variety of sources such as reports, documents, correspondence, electronic files, etc.
  • Organizes and maintains files and reference manuals/materials; ensures confidentiality of information, as necessary.
  • Prepares materials needed for meetings, such as agendas, handouts, binders, etc.
  • May perform administrative functions such as payroll preparation, travel reports, supply requisitions, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.
