About The Position

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Administrative Assistant 2 to support the Division of Food Safety and Inspection in Albany, NY. The Administrative Assistant 2 will be responsible for providing administrative support for the Director and Assistant Director as well as tasks associated with supporting the Division as a whole. The Administrative Assistant 2, SG-15, is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Opportunities for telecommuting may be available in accordance with the agency’s Telecommuting Program Guidelines.

Requirements

  • One year of permanent, competitive service in a title designated as appropriate for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Such titles include Program Aide, Office Assistant 3, Office Assistant 3 Calculations, and Payroll Examiner 2.
  • Qualified employee of New York State with three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS, or 55-b/55-c service as an Administrative Assistant 1, Administrative Assistant 1 (French Language), Administrative Assistant 1 (Russian Language), Administrative Assistant 1 (Spanish Language), Examination Composition Assistant, Law Department Document Specialist, Office Assistant 2-Keyboarding, Office Assistant 2-Keyboarding (Spanish Language), Secretary 1, or Secretary 1 (Spanish Language).
  • One year of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS, or 55-b/55-c service as an Administrative Assistant 1, Administrative Assistant 1 (French Language), Administrative Assistant 1 (Russian Language), Administrative Assistant 1 (Spanish Language), Examination Composition Assistant, Law Department Document Specialist, Office Assistant 2-Keyboarding, Office Assistant 2-Keyboarding (Spanish Language), Secretary 1, or Secretary 1 (Spanish Language).

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed.
  • Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.
  • If there are three or fewer interested and qualified promotion candidates, the agency may at its discretion nominate a qualified employee for a non-competitive promotion under the provisions of Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law.
  • Applicants may be appointed to this position permanently if they were previous permanent New York State employees who resigned their positions may be reinstated to their former positions, or to positions to which they were eligible for transfer or reassignment without further examination.
  • Employees separated from their positions may be reinstated within one year of the date of their separation.
  • Employees separated from their positions who have also been separated from state service for more than one year may be reinstated upon approval by the state Civil Service Commission.
