About The Position

This position involves teaching 100-level SWELL Courses as assigned by the SWELL Course Coordinator. Subjects may include Beginning and Intermediate Bowling, Diving, Functional Fitness, Beginning Golf, Beginning Racquetball, Beginning Soccer, Beginning and Intermediate Swimming, and Beginning and Intermediate Volleyball. The role requires instructors to teach scheduled classes, track attendance and participation, enter grades, and instruct students in assigned course topics. This includes explaining proper techniques, demonstrating activities, and meeting course learning outcomes. Instructors are also responsible for preparing necessary materials and equipment, assisting students, maintaining a positive exercise experience, keeping the supervisor informed of needs, and ensuring safety standards and university policies are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Physical Education, Recreation Management, Exercise Science & Wellness, Student Affairs, or related field. Must have the required degree by the start date.
  • One-year professional work experience or the equivalent (preferably in teaching, physical education and/or coaching).
  • Must have current First Aid, CPR & AED certifications.
  • Must be able to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • All employees are required to abide by the university's Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.
  • Successful candidates are expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrines of the affiliated church.

Responsibilities

  • Teach scheduled classes (including beginning and ending on time, tracking attendance and participation, and entering grades).
  • Instruct students in assigned course topics (explain proper techniques, demonstrate activities, and meet course learning outcomes).
  • Prepare appropriate materials, equipment, and music, as needed for each class.
  • Assist students, answer questions, and maintain a positive exercise experience.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of student and facility/equipment needs.
  • Ensure safety standards are met and department/university policies are adhered to.
