About The Position

Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school designed for serious student-athletes who want both elite academics and high-level athletic development. Students cover 2x the material in just 2 hours a day, using the same 2-Hour Learning model as Alpha School. That frees up their entire afternoon for serious training, where they work alongside former pro and D1 athletes coaching them at the highest standard. We're hiring a Student Wellness Coach to help students build the confidence, focus, and resilience they need to perform at a high level in school and in sport. This is a non-clinical coaching and mentorship role focused on mindset, motivation, and everyday skills, not therapy, diagnosis, or treatment. This is a non-clinical, coaching-focused position. The Student Wellness Coach does not provide psychological assessment, diagnosis, counseling, or therapy, and does not replace care from a licensed mental health professional.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required to apply.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience is exactly what we're looking for.
  • You can sit down with a 9-year-old or a 16-year-old and have a real conversation. You read emotional cues well and you don't talk down to young people.
  • You let students finish their sentences. You ask good questions. You don't jump in with advice before you understand what's actually going on.
  • You understand that competition, training, and performance pressure are part of these students' lives, and you can speak to that world without dismissing it or glorifying it.
  • You can write a short, professional, accurate, easy-to-read update for a parent or coach.

Nice To Haves

  • Psychology, education, kinesiology, social work, sports science, or a related field is a plus.
  • Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Coursework or Experience With K-12 Students: Practicums, school program internships, youth program volunteering, or camp counselor work all count.
  • Background in Sports or Athletics: You played, coached, or worked around competitive sports and understand what it asks of a young person.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish): Helpful for connecting with the full range of families on our campus.

Responsibilities

  • Help students build practical skills for handling performance pressure, peer dynamics, and the normal ups and downs of being a young athlete in a high-standards environment. Think mindset, motivation, and routines, coaching, not clinical care.
  • Share relevant, day-to-day observations with the adults around each student so the whole team can support them well, while respecting each student's privacy.
  • Keep parents in the loop on their student's engagement, progress, and goals, and talk through how the family can reinforce what's happening at school.
  • Help students navigate the TSA learning platform so they can stay focused on academics and athletics without getting stuck on the tools. Walk them through common issues, answer their questions, and make the tech feel approachable.
  • Lead group sessions on practical topics like bouncing back from a loss, managing pre-competition nerves, time management, and healthy competition.

Benefits

  • Real mentorship
  • Real responsibility
  • The chance to shape how mental and emotional development gets integrated into the daily life of a school.
  • Great seat for someone early in their career who wants to do meaningful work with young people and grow fast alongside experienced educators and coaches.
