About The Position

This position involves teaching Music 280R: Intro to Popular Music History, an evening class offered through the School of Music. The course is designed as an accessible introduction to popular music as a cultural, historical, and musical phenomenon, open to students from all disciplines with no prior musical training. The instructor will be responsible for preparing and utilizing high-quality course materials, managing the course on BYU's Learning Suite or Canvas, and remaining accessible to students for assistance. Frequent communication with the Division Coordinator is expected, along with a firm commitment to the mission of BYU.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required
Significant professional/industry experience required
Evidence of strong teaching ability or potential
Must have completed the required degree by the start date
Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU

Responsibilities

Teach Music 280R: Intro to Popular Music History
Prepare and employ high-quality course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, lectures, and activities that align with the School of Music’s learning outcomes for the course
Utilize BYU’s Learning Suite or Canvas to manage assignments, post grades, and communicate with students
Remain accessible to students for questions and assistance as needed outside of regular class time
Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner
Frequent communication with the Division Coordinator providing updates
