About The Position

This position involves teaching a class in First-Year Writing for International Students, specifically ELING 150. The instructor will be responsible for guiding students in academic writing, reading, and research, with a focus on those for whom English is a second language. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of core linguistic concepts, as well as the social, biological, and psychological aspects of language. The instructor must also understand the processes of academic writing, reading, and research tailored for international students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics or related field.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of core linguistic concepts (sounds, structure, meaning).
  • Must demonstrate understanding of social, biological and psychological aspects of language.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the processes of academic writing, reading, and research for international students who have English as their second language.
  • Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • All employees are required to abide by the university's Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.
  • Successful candidates are expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrines of the affiliated church.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Linguistics or related field.
