About The Position

This position involves teaching ENGL 302: Writing with Style at Brigham Young University (BYU) on the Provo campus. The course description and learning objectives are available in the BYU Course Catalog. Adjunct faculty are expected to teach in-person classes, be available for at least three office hours per week, share an office with up to two other adjunct faculty, and provide timely feedback on assignments. Office hours can be conducted in person and/or online. Adjunct faculty may be required to attend department training before the teaching term and participate in periodic course coordination meetings. They do not attend department faculty meetings and are not expected to engage in citizenship and research as part of their regular load. However, they may be invited to take on minimal ad hoc curricular and mentoring assignments for additional compensation. Adjunct faculty are also welcome to attend optional mini-workshops. Applicants must submit an updated curriculum vitae, cover letter, and a Mission Alignment Statement. This position requires the successful candidate to relocate to and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment. All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints must hold a current temple recommend and be worthy to do so. All employees are required to adhere to the university's Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards. Preference is given to qualified candidates who are members in good standing of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Successful candidates are expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrines of the affiliated church. Requirements

  • MA in English, MFA in Creative Writing, or a master's degree in a comparable field (degree must be completed before the start date).
  • College-level English composition or literature course instruction experience.
  • Ability to teach in-person classes on the BYU Provo campus.
  • Availability for at least three office hours each week.
  • Willingness to share an office with up to two additional adjunct faculty.
  • Ability to provide assignment feedback in a timely manner.
  • Willingness to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • Submission of an updated curriculum vitae.
  • Submission of a cover letter.
  • Submission of a Mission Alignment Statement.
