About The Position

Serve as an adjunct instructor and mentor within the Bio-Innovations curriculum. Coach student teams on early-stage life science ventures, including: research and product development, regulatory and commercialization pathways, funding strategies and investor readiness, governance, operations, and company formation. Provide feedback on weekly student progress reports and pitch materials. Support students in developing professional presentations and venture pitches. Leverage industry experience and networks to enhance student learning and opportunity. Collaborate with departmental faculty to strengthen the innovation ecosystem within the life sciences at BYU.

Requirements

  • PhD. The required degree must be completed by the start date.
  • Advanced degree or significant professional experience in the life sciences, biotechnology, diagnostics, or related fields
  • Demonstrated experience founding, operating, or leading early-stage life science startups
  • Strong understanding of the life science innovation pipeline, from discovery through commercialization
  • Established professional connections within the Utah life sciences ecosystem and/or national or international networks
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate student mentorship and success
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific and business concepts clearly to students
  • Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience raising capital (venture, angel, grants, or non-dilutive funding)
  • Experience working with university technology transfer or IP commercialization
  • Prior teaching, guest lecturing, or mentorship experience in academic or accelerator settings
  • Familiarity with regulatory, clinical, or translational pathways in the life sciences
