About The Position

The School of Family Life at BYU is seeking an Adjunct Researcher for the Missionary Experiences Research Project. This position is designed to manage the project through its next steps, focusing on understanding factors that contribute to and guard against serious mental health challenges for young missionaries serving LDS missions. The interviews are nearing completion, and this role will guide the project through transcription, coding, analysis, and reporting. The position requires 28 hours per week and involves supervising research assistants, ensuring IRB protocol adherence, overseeing training and data collection, collaborating with various entities for transcription, and engaging in all aspects of qualitative research, including interviewing, transcribing, coding, identifying themes, and theory development, culminating in written reports.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies or Human Development is required and must be completed by the start date.
  • Conducting qualitative research in family studies is required.
  • Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • All employees are required to abide by the university's Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.
  • Successful candidates are expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrines of the affiliated church.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in transcribing, coding, and analyzing qualitative interview data is preferred.
  • Preference is given to qualified candidates who are members in good standing of the affiliated church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Missionary Experiences study on BYU campus.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate research assistants, assigning and following up on tasks.
  • Ensure IRB protocol adherence.
  • Oversee training and data collection and analysis.
  • Work with on- and off-campus entities as needed to complete transcription of interviews.
  • Engage in all aspects of qualitative research including, interviewing participants, transcribing, coding, collaboration in identifying emerging themes, and theory development.
  • Write written reports.
