The Department of Art & Design at Monmouth University invites applications on an ongoing basis for part-time adjunct faculty positions teaching Drawing 1 and 2 and/or Painting 1, 2, and 3. Courses are taught in person at the West Long Branch campus. Adjunct faculty typically teach 3–6 credits per semester, up to two courses or six credit hours total. Course assignments and schedules are determined by the Department Chair based on enrollment and departmental needs, as well as candidate availability. Drawing and Painting courses carry 4.5 load hours. The expected salary is $1,100 per load hour, and the work schedule varies over 14 weeks per year. Adjunct faculty develop and deliver lectures, discussions, and assignments in accordance with the curriculum and learning objectives; meet with students outside of class; foster a positive and inclusive learning environment; evaluate student learning through projects and exams; assign grades promptly; and provide timely feedback and guidance. The successful candidate will bring demonstrated hands-on expertise in drawing and/or painting and be able to safely manage a studio environment, including equipment operation, chemical handling to OSHA and EPA standards, and supply purchasing. The Department offers an innovative curriculum in Animation, Graphic and Interactive Design, Photography, Studio Art, and Art Education. Faculty work in an intimate learning environment and support challenging, comprehensive studio experiences. The department also maintains galleries for creative work by students, faculty, and practicing artists. Applications are accepted continuously to build a pool of qualified adjunct faculty. Screening begins when a position becomes available, and applicants will be emailed about next steps. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted through the university career portal. Required materials are a resume or CV, cover letter specifying areas of expertise, contact information for three professional references, two letters of recommendation, a 1–2 page artistic statement, a portfolio of 15–20 professional-work images with title, medium, dimensions, and date for each, and a portfolio of student work with course context, if available. Candidates are encouraged to address their teaching approach and plans to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in their cover letter.
