About The Position

The dynamic and comprehensive master of occupational therapy program (MOT) prepares students for successful careers as occupational therapists such as in healthcare, mental health, rehabilitation, or community-based settings. Students are trained to become culturally conscious practitioners through an occupation-centered model that equips them to better serve their clients and communities. The occupational therapy master’s degree curriculum combines hands-on academic instruction with the flexibility of online courses. Graduates leave with the knowledge and skills to be competent, innovative health professionals who meet the occupational needs of diverse individuals and support a variety of physical conditions through service and transformative healthcare. Applicants to this position will be considered for a candidate pool encompassing one or more of the subject areas outlined in the job description. This pool will be used to identify qualified candidates for potential appointments during the 2026–2027 academic year.

Requirements

Minimum of a master’s degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by USDE.
Demonstrate expertise in Pediatric occupational therapy practice or psychosocial occupational therapy practice.
Minimum 2 years clinical experience.
Documented current expertise in assigned areas of teaching responsibility.
Adequate years of experience in the areas involved in assignments.
Documented potential in the areas of facilitating learning, scholarship, and service, as applicable to assignments.
If appropriate, a record of meritorious performance of the duties and obligations of instructor.
Currently licensed or otherwise regulated in the state or jurisdiction as an occupational therapist (if teaching occupational therapy content).
Licensed Occupational Therapist in the State of California or eligible for licensure.
NBCOT Certified.
Must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

Doctoral Degree preferred or equivalent terminal degree from an USDE accredited college or university.
Qualified candidates who are studying for a doctoral degree may be considered.
Licensure must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Teach courses in Pediatrics (Fall 2026) and Psychosocial Interventions (Spring 2027).
Pick up and promptly respond to paper, voice and electronic mail and messages.
Maintain visibility and accessibility supporting a sense of community.
Be regularly accessible either by person, by telephone and/or virtually to students, colleagues and the greater University community.
Post teaching schedules, office hours, and procedures for making appointments on the faculty member’s door, online and on syllabi.
Attend and participate in program and department meetings.
Respond in a timely fashion to students’ requests for meetings, to telephone calls, and to e-mail communications.
Participate in developing, revising and coordinating curriculum and maintaining program vitality.
Submit grades, attendance, syllabi, and textbook orders in compliance with university established procedures and deadlines.
Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or directed.
Facilitate learning.
Facilitate classroom and distance/distributed learning.
Prepare courses and syllabi.
Coordinate and plan class curriculum.
Assess and evaluate learners.
Mentor and advise students.
Supervise and coordinate field placements.
Interact with supervisor to receive direction and instructions and/or review of work results.
Work closely with colleagues in multiple departments (i.e. Admissions, Student Advising, Registrar, etc.) to support both students and colleagues in achieving student success and Department goals.
Interact with prospective students, to provide advice and support.
Interact with accrediting and regulatory agencies as required.
Perform all work in a manner that complies with the organization policies, applicable regulations, applicable standards of professional performance, or other recognized laws or requirements as these policies, regulations, standards, laws or requirements relating to the position.
Participate and support in the organizational compliance activities and to take appropriate action in reporting issues related to compliance.
