About The Position

Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is seeking candidates for an adjunct teaching position in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program. The Department of Sociology and Social Work is looking for individuals to teach one or more courses in sociology or social work. Requirements

  • MSW or PhD in Sociology/Social Work
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate/graduate teaching.
  • Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education.
  • Desire to work in a Christian university.
  • Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
  • Agreement to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in the area of the graduate MSW program, including general education and service courses.
  • Instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate graduate-level students.
  • Write syllabi and deliver illustrated lectures.
  • Work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Engage in personal scholarship and scholarship with students.
  • Advise students academically, spiritually, and socially.
  • Participate in departmental activities and governance.
  • Serve on university faculty committees/working groups and perform other normal faculty duties when requested.
  • Contribute in preparing students for their career and finding who they are called to be.

Benefits

  • Adjunct pay range: $5,013 - $6,684 for a 3-unit full semester appointment (actual salary determined by units).
