About The Position

St. Thomas University invites applications for Adjunct Instructors of Education to teach in-person undergraduate and graduate education courses face-to-face on campus during the day and/or evening hours. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and a commitment to preparing future educators and educational leaders through engaging, student-centered instruction. Adjunct faculty are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in face-to-face (as well as sometimes hybrid and online learning environments) while supporting student success and advancing the mission and values of the University.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education or a closely related field from an accredited institution (required) for undergraduate instruction.
  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) for graduate-level instruction.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college or university level.
  • Experience teaching face-to-face and/or online courses.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology, including Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to student success and academic excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate education courses.
  • Professional experience in K–12 education and/or higher education.
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • Experience using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Familiarity with Zoom and other instructional technologies.
  • Knowledge of current educational best practices and Florida educator preparation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned face-to-face, on-campus, undergraduate and/or graduate education courses during the day and/or evening hours.
  • Deliver engaging instruction using evidence-based and student-centered teaching strategies.
  • Prepare and maintain course materials consistent with approved curriculum and university standards.
  • Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to post course materials, assignments, grades, and timely feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and academic records in accordance with university policies.
  • Respond to student communications in a timely, professional manner.
  • Assess student learning using appropriate instructional and assessment strategies.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Program Director regarding course progress and student concerns.
  • Participate in required adjunct orientation, training, and faculty development activities.
